Like the catalogue? They have a store? I’m from Hawaii so I always looked at the catalogue and imagined what the mainlanders got up to in the wilderness.

Yes, they have several physical stores in the continental US. The customers get up to shenanigans.

The stores even have large displays of taxidermied wildlife in a fake natural setting with a “pond” aquarium with fish, so that kids can pick out what they plan to hunt or fish for. It’s very educational. There is also a rar e gun room where you can look at and even buy special versions of the racks and racks of regular guns that are also for sale.

Yeah and they’re pretty flippin’ cool as far as retail goes... I had to run in to get an extra collar for my doggo gps and wished I had more time to burn.

There’s 3 Cabela’s in the twin cities (not surprising since everyone and their mothers deer hunt here) and the gun rooms have a surprising amount of not terrible shit in them. I was surprised.

My wife was literally concerned that something happened to me since I “knew what I was getting” before I left the house but still spent a loooong time wandering around the store looking at things. Helpful staff, too.

When my current dog was a hyperactive puppy in the middle of winter we would take him to Cabela’s to walk him around, socialize him, and buy some dog toys. They have some good dog stuff.

Big props to someone towing a bass boat with a Cayman

Damn... I want that Cayman. A Boxster/Cayman like that is at the top of my list for next car purchase, unless something derails my savings for the next couple of years.

981 or 981S... don’t even really need a GTS, let alone a GT4/Spyder. (although it would be great)

I’m not even sure you could buy/maintain a Lotus Evora for the same money as a 981 at this point... due to the lotus’ rarity.

No doubt that you are correct on the Evora . . . but it has a back seat for my dog!

Sure... but then again, so does a 997.1

(997.1 also high on my list, and I’d also consider a very nice example of a 996 that isn’t shagged out by people buying them cheap, and not maintaining them)

Possible hot-take... a clean narrow-body pre-facelift 996, especially an aerokit, or GT3... the exterior styling has aged better than both the facelift 996, and the early 997.

Kinja'd!!!

I still like the C4s and Turbo, and the Millenium-edition Carrera 4 with the 996.2/turbo headlights... and the 996 C4S is still the best looking water-cooled 911 from the rear view...

Kinja'd!!!

But the narrow-body 996.2 and 997s are starting to look a little bland on the front, and the 997 seems a bit more slab-sided. The 996 seems a bit more tapered on the tail, and the horizontal panel seam and tail light lower edge looks better than the up-swept 997

Kinja'd!!!

The 997/987 obviously has the better quality interior... but now that it is aging, it seems neither as unique as the 996/986, nor as slick and up-to-date as the more modern Porsches... Not bad at all, but not exactly a ‘special’ place to spend time... Hopefully the DRIVING makes the interior a moot point, anyway.
